Study Groups

From its inception, NMREX has used study groups to faciliate a deepening understanding of Reggio principles and their implementation. Members of a study group read articles and/or agreed upon sections of highly recommended books about Reggio practice and meet on a regular basis to discuss the readings and support each other's construction of knowledge about the Reggio approach. In the past, the diversity of individuals at these study group meetings have provided an amazing array of contributions to the discussion from various areas of experience and expertise. A chosen facilitator ensures an appropriate balance between speakers as well as between discussion and wait time. Just as children in Reggio classrooms construct much of their understanding through discussion with their peers, so do we take advantage of our professional peers to support a deeper understanding of Reggio principles.

All study groups are free of cost. We only ask that you acquire a copy of the book being studied.

Project Zero & Reggio Children (2001). Making Learning Visible: Children as Individual and Group Learners. Cambridge, MA: Project Zero.

Learn more about Reggio and Reggio-inspired practice through this amazing resource which allows us to see into the individual and collaborative learning of Italian and American children as well as into the thinking and documentation practices of educators. In this richly-illustrated book—the culmination of a two-year research collaboration—teachers and “pedagogistas” from Reggio Emilia and researchers from Project Zero illuminate ways in which documentation can foster both individual and group learning, creating a relationship between them. They identify methods and processes that will enable educators to reflect not only on the learning processes of children but also on those of adults.
